Miss Mamie's Spoonbread
Step off the crazy intersection of 110th and Columbus and step into the warmth of Miss Mamie's...just walking in will make you smile..a small oasis from the UWS bustle. White walls and small tables and a counter..over which hangs the chalkboard with the latest and greatest in food options....you can also glance into the glass container of pies and cookies. You 'll sit down and drink water out of those old glass containers (usually holding spaghetti sauce or marmalade), what you'd picture drinking a fresh lemonade out of on a hot sticky Southern afternoon...
Staff is extremely friendly, got several "dears" and "ma'ams" from our waiter.
You can't go here if you're not hungry, because ordering an entree without sides would be a total waste. I ordered the fried chicken and Swimster chose the BBQ ribs. On the side we tried the whopping mashers, sweet potatoes, macaroni and cheese, and stuffing. All were finger-lickin' good....unfortunately my top choice...cornbread stuffing..is only sold on the weekends. If it weren't for the calories of each of these choices, I'd be eating there once a week.
If dining in isn't an option for you they also have take-out, several people came in to pick up their fried chicken meals. Bubba has even been sited eating a delicious meal here...
